Past Successes

Several of our past cases have required creative solutions. For instance, one of our divorce clients was a man whose wife had a valuable stock portfolio. But the wife had borrowed heavily against her portfolio to pay for household repairs and furniture. Essentially, the wife had squandered her holdings and then asked for exorbitant alimony payments.

Attorney Albright was able to use the idea of "voluntary impoverishment" to lower her client's alimony payments. Voluntary impoverishment is typically used when a person intentionally earns less money so as to cheat a spouse out of alimony. Ms. Albright showed that it also applied to the ex-wife's irresponsible waste of her assets. (See our Representative Cases page for more on this and other cases we have handled.)
