Maryland Immigration, Family Law, Civil Litigation, and Criminal Defense Lawyer

Albright & Rhodes, LLC regularly accepts referrals for cases with legal issues spanning several areas. Both firm principals, Anne K. Albright and Laura Kelsey Rhodes, are members in good standing of the Bars of the District of Columbia, Maryland, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. The firm's two associate attorneys, Joyce Kosak (licensed in Maryland and the District of Columbia) focuses on family and criminal law and Polina Tomashevsky (licensed in New York) focuses in business and family immigration and litigation. The firm's three counsel attorneys, Judith Mustille, Tim Junkin and Sandra Grossman have successful practices of their own.

Our firm represents clients in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. We offer extensive experience in the following types of law:

  • Criminal defense, including serious charges, such as white collar crimes, sex offenses, drug crimes, homicide, arson, etc.
  • Family law: including divorce, non-community property issues, child custody, child support, premarital agreements, adoption, domestic violence, paternity, and overturning separation agreements.
  • Immigration, with a focus on deportation cases, family visas, citizenship, naturalization procedures, “green card” applications, employment petitions, asylum cases, etc.
  • Civil litigation, including personal injury and wrongful death litigation, contract disputes, employment claims, family law and commercial matters, landlord / tenant disputes, police brutality claims, emergency protective orders, etc.
  • Appeals and post-conviction remedies: Our principals have extensive experience in appeals and post-conviction remedies. We have successfully handled several cases involving immigrants in need of record expungement or lessening of charges.

The senior attorneys of our firm began their work as public defenders. Laura Kelsey Rhodes was Chief of the Drug Defense Division in Prince George's County's Public Defender Office and director of Attorney Training for the Maryland Public Defender.  Anne K. Albright was counsel for the Persistent Offender Task Force of the Seattle-King County Public Defender’s Association. Both have taught several classes and seminars and received many awards.  Counsel Tim Junkin is a former president of the District of Columbia Public Defender Service Alumni Association.

Matters are staffed by an experienced attorney, along with paralegals, investigators, and / or clerical support, in a manner maximizing cost-effectiveness. Past cases exemplify the effectiveness of our approach, and have included a multimillion dollar verdict, the infamous case of a woman arrested for driving too slowly and evading police simultaneously, a creative use of the principle of voluntary impoverishment in an alimony case, and an appeal on civil rights grounds that enabled a client to avoid deportation and apply for citizenship.
